I think I found out what is so jarring with my current roommates. They do not get excited; they're literally too cool for school type. "Oh yeah that's cool" is their go to when the expression I'm used to is "OH MAN THATS AWESOME" etc.
It's so strange, I'm at this bizarro place where people don't give wide smiles, only that cool half smile smirk thing. Leather jacket and all, you know what I mean. Too cool too cool!
