A Special Specific Day with Jerry

Hello and welcome to "A special specific day" with your host, Jerry Lim! Today, I feel like doing something special. I will spend basically every minute of sunlight outside my home! Wooo!!

First up, I woke up early in the morning, and head to the farmer's market. I've never been to the farmer's market regular schedule, so I have no idea what they usually have. I usually attend it when there's special events, like the last time, when I went there for a vegan fair.

So I went to the farmer's market and had my breakfast there, and guess what, I met an old friend there, having his "brunch". The last time I saw this guy was around the time of La Dame's funeral, as we were all friends of La Dame. We basically stopped hanging out at a certain time until La Dame's passing brought us all back together, then we fell apart again. The man was seriously jet lagged as he just return back from his Russia trip (he had a conference). We were basically catching up; he's doing his last semester in his PhD while I'm doing my last semester in my bachelors... then we walked around the market looking at the various stalls.

The market was pretty cool, there were lots of food stalls selling all sorts of food. I went and got my breakfast from the bakery, while my friend (let's call him Siberiaman) got his from one of those Canadian-South-Asian stalls. There was also a stall ran by Russians selling perogies. Siberiaman bought some of the frozen ones, saying that its the closest thing to home here.

There were plenty of stalls selling hand crafted things. Handcrafted jam, handcrafted gloves, hats, chopping boards, pet food... We basically just went through those real quick. I have no desire to buy any of those things, even though some of them are really cool. Just no need for them right now. As for fresh vegetables, there were lots of roots vegetables being sold by many of the local farms there. But that's the thing, there isn't any of the non-root vegetables, so you can't really do your grocery shopping here, it's all just turnip, potatoes, carrots, onions, and whatever roots I left out.

After that, we went our separate ways. I was headed downtown while he was going to go home. We bid each other adieu and then we split.

My main goal for the day is to at least complete an assignment. All my stats courses have assignments due next week, and I intend to finish them by this weekend (unfortunately, 2 of the stats courses have not taught the content needed to finish their last few questions, so I'll do what I can first).

The walk downtown was mighty fine. Today was sunny and the temperature was around 8 degrees, so it's quite perfect. I head straight to one of my favourite coffee place, Fixed Coffee, got a cappuccino, and sat down there for almost 3 hours just working on my assignment. Yeah, I was one of those guy who just buys 1 drink, and then spent the next few hours just getting complementary water.

In my few hours there, I've seen a huge surge of customers, then it died down, then a huge surge of customers again, then it died down. At first I thought it's lunch break time, then I remember it's Saturday, so I don't know, maybe it's just luck.

After that, I went to Peaceful Loft, a local eastern vegan place, for lunch. By now it's already almost 3pm. Ordered my usual fried rice, and read a few chapters of this book I'm reading, then I left.

I stopped by a few of the stores that I never browsed before. One's a travel store. They sell all the travelling goods like converters, luggage, maps of different countries, and various travelling accessories like those neck pillow things, hidden money pouches or something, and much more. The other store I browsed, well I can't really say what it is... but they sell lots of the environmental friendly stuff, like metal straws, fancy hipster portable cups, graphic tote bags, those kind of stuff. I don't think they sell wooden toothbrushes though, didn't see any, forget to ask. Oh, and they sell honey too. I'm thinking of getting one of those portable cups, but before I make any impulse purchases, I'll probably check out the thrift store first. I doubt there's any in the thrift store, as this going green movement is rather new here in Newfoundland, but it doesn't hurt to try. I'm aware that one of the local sushi places will be having a tutorial on sushi making, so I went and sign myself up for that too while I'm at it.

After that, I walked home, and am now typing this. The sun has already set. Jeez, the sun sets so early now. Apparently, there's going to be a party in my house tonight. I'm not looking forward to it. I already hid my boots in my room, because I'm afraid someone is going to steal it. I also brought all my plants back into my room. There's no sunlight in my room so I usually leave them in the living room by the window, but for tonight they're staying in my room. Can't trust these people, especially with plants.

I know for a fact that there's an event happening downtown. It's like a massive party, called Mardi Gras. This means that I'm secretly hoping that all these people would leave my house early, so that I could get a good night's sleep. Heheh... ah well. It was an extremely fun day, except for that horrible shoulder ache I'm experiencing, but I could massage that myself. What I'm not looking forward to is tonight's Swedish Duolingo session. It's a course on "Determiners". I have no idea what determiners mean and it's super difficult.

Tomorrow, I plan to finish all my assignments, and maybe, hopefully get my jacket tailored. Right now it's a bit too airy, hope I could tighten it a bit. There's always things to do! Things to keep me occupied!
