Post Midterm Report

It's only the mid of November, and why is it already snowing so much?!

Figure 61.1: I left it out for an hour and look at it!

So, I just finished all my mid terms. That morning, there was apparently a wind storm. We were all kind of hoping class to be cancelled that day so that our mid term would get delayed. I was really not prepared for this midterm after the pretty bad weekend. Apparently, my classmate's husband, who is a professor at a neighbour college, had their entire campus shut down that day due to strong winds (it was as strong as 130km/h). Our classes went on as usual though so that means there's exam!

I spent the entire previous night just working on the exam preparation. I was not ready, I wasn't in the mood, but the date has been set for the past few weeks so that ain't no excuse! The problem was that the exam was at 9am. I couldn't cycle because of the strong winds, which means I can't wake up at my usual time. I had to wake up earlier and leave earlier cause I'll be on foot, and I sort of put the weather into consideration. I didn't had much sleep the night before, but the wind literally woke me up. It was cold and it was extremely strong. In fact, the wind helped me get to university quicker as it was blowing me to the direction of the uni. How nice! So I got to my exam earlier than I expected!

We were allowed 1 formula sheet for the exam, and my gosh I have created a masterpiece of a formula sheet.

I guess my morning brain was still fizzing, as I immediately hit a road block right at the first question. The first question was something we've worked with both in class and in assignment, but I guess the fatigue and the stress was knocking me off my game. Fortunately, the rest of the question was manageable (except question 6). My initial assumption on question 1 turned out to be correct, but I doubted myself so much that I did something completely different. The steps were correct, but the distributions were wrong. The question follows Poisson distribution. I initially thought about using Poisson but then I backtracked and used Binomial instead. Agh!

Question 6 was tricky. The question was that a random variable X follows a Poisson distribution with parameter m. But m follows a Gamma distribution with alpha = 2 and beta = 1, and were supposed to find P(X=0,1,2). Absolutely no idea where to start. Somehow one of my answer got me to 0^0 = MATH ERROR, so needless to say I got this question wrong too.

My other classmate, let's call him Korean boi (as he is a Korean and a boy), was ranting to me about question 6 the entire time after the exam. We are also classmates in the class immediately after our exam, and we both couldn't focus in class. His mind was preoccupied with question 6, while mine was preoccupied with my stupid careless mistake on question 1. It was a pretty funny moment. At one point during the class, he whispered to me: "man, I can't focus, I can't stop thinking about question 6." And I replied: "yeah me too,  I can't stop thinking about question 1." And we were both just giggling in class at that moment. Yeah, pretty nice moment indeed, feels like high school or something.

After that class, I have another class. Now, with the midterms over and my mind finally getting over with that dastardly question 1, I finally relaxed. Oooof bad idea. Immediately after relaxing, the fatigue showed up and I couldn't focus in class again, but this time its because I was super tired. Mind you, this was 2pm. I was just constantly yawning in class. What makes it worse is that there were only 2 students in that class, me and some other guy (yes, only two!), so the professor had full view of me constantly yawning and almost dozing off in class.

Remember when I said I'm trying to try a new recipe every week? Well, turns out its really difficult to think of a new recipe to try every week. So, I handled this by just buying a cookbook. This week is "Lemon Rosemary Chicken and Rice"! Well... see the results for yourself...

I didn't use the recommended 1 cup of rice because that's a bit too much for me, so I settled with my usual 2/3 cup of rice. With that, I also multiplied the suggested amount of chicken broth by 2/3 so I don't flood the rice. I believe that's the only difference I made. It taste just like how I thought it would taste, except a bit too lemony. I completely forgot to proportion the lemon and it became more sour than it should be I guess. Also, no sliced lemon like in the picture! Sorry!

Keeping my Duolingo game strong! German is still as simple ever! It seems like spending over a year formally learning German goes a long way! Swedish though got really difficult now! Doing past tense now, something I didn't formally learn back in Sweden. I mean, some of the words are really similar to the present tense such as åt and äta, åkte and åka, etc. etc... It seems like most of past tense ends with a d-sound or a t-sound, but yeah, looking forward to the weekend for a full rest!
